Bregor guides the group through the tunnels to the Thorn Road, where an ambush by invisible imps becomes an unexpected alliance. Azeem negotiates safe passage with the hungry devils, securing their guidance—and even discovering the rare narcotic fungus known as Glowies. At the Thorn Road, the group uncovers a disturbing operation: four cultists transporting three unconscious women toward Mykonos. Through a combination of magic, interrogation and some ruthless improvisation, they learn of the cult of Maltheus, its mysterious contact Edrar, and the women's likely fate at the Haven. They arrange for the women to be returned to Captain Melvin before continuing their journey. Their actions attract the attention of the Mistress's agents, who warn that their future use of the Thorn Road will be judged. The group presses onward through Silverline Pass to Mykonos, where they discover they are being watched from every direction. There, they finally meet Edrar—a proud half-elf expecting the women's delivery. Rather than reveal the truth, the group turns the situation to their advantage, convincing Edrar that an alliance with the Mistress could be far more profitable, particularly now that Prius Monfort has been removed from the game. Edrar agrees to a meeting in Stonemount in three nights. With their enemies watching and their own position increasingly precarious, the group slips out of Mykonos under cover of darkness.
